Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! 2 Corinthians 13:5
We continue to remind ourselves of the truths that are involved around “Christ in us.” Jesus himself spoke of this on the night he was betrayed. He spoke about abiding in him (John 15), but he also spoke about what is needed for him to come to live in a person—to make his home in a person. Please read and/or listen to John 14:18-26. Notice verse 23. Read it carefully. Here it is in the NIV: 23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Love. A heart that is home to Christ is a heart that loves Christ. Of course, we love because he first loved us (1 John 4:19). We do love him. He does not make his home in our hearts simply because we are obedient. It is not our works that allow him to make our heart his home. It is the love that motivates our obedience. Our willing and enthusiastic obedience is indeed an indicator of our love. Today, ponder your love for Jesus. Do you love him? Do you tell him you do? Out loud? Do you tell the Father that you love him? The Spirit? Do you love God deeply from your heart? How does your love for him guide your actions and your words? How full is your heart because he has made his home there?
