Wisdom

Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. Proverbs 4:5-8

Proverbs chapters 1-4 speak of the importance of gaining what James calls “wisdom from above” (James 3:17). These chapters in Proverbs are so powerful to realize the power that comes from embracing the wisdom that comes from above. In these verses, it literally says to embrace wisdom. There is a treasure in store for us. As salvation history and the redemptive plan of God have unfolded, we can see that this wisdom is available to us in the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is his role to remind us of the wisdom of God. The indwelling Spirit in the life of a Christ-follower provides the wisdom and makes it accessible, but embracing that wisdom is a matter of our will. As we seek to humbly have our wills align with the will of God, the wisdom from above shapes our lives and guards and guides our minds and actions. It shapes our hearts. Read these chapters in Proverbs today and consider the benefits of embracing the wisdom from above and the consequences of rejecting this wisdom. How has that revealed itself in your life?
