“Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” (Mark 6:31).
What’s not to love here? It is an invitation to step out of the busyness and immediacy of our day-to-day lives to go to a quiet place and get some rest. Yes! Sign me up and, please, can we do it tomorrow?! But its appeal is sweeter even than that, because although this invitation was first offered by Jesus to his disciples, it extends now to us; the One who loves us more than any other invites us to come and be with Him. He offers us rest—not only for our overscheduled physical selves but also for our souls. He extends an invitation for a time set apart for delighting in Him and recognizing how He delights in us—and because of that, I invite you to come away for a weekend to learn the principles of Sabbath rest and to luxuriate in the practice of an extended Sabbath as we spend days—unstructured and unencumbered by the normalcies of life—with Jesus. Come.
