Biblical Counseling

Life can bring seasons of pain, confusion, loss, conflict, and uncertainty. Our Biblical Counseling Ministry exists to come alongside individuals, couples, and families with compassion, hope, and the truth of God’s Word. We believe that no matter what someone is facing, God is present and faithful, and that true hope is ultimately found in Jesus Christ. Our desire is to provide a safe, caring place where people can be heard, encouraged, prayed for, and gently pointed toward the hope and healing found in Christ.

Biblical counseling is more than simply finding solutions to problems. It is an opportunity to bring the struggles of everyday life before God and discover how his Word speaks into our hearts, relationships, choices, and circumstances. Whether someone is walking through grief, anxiety, relational difficulty, marriage or family struggles, anger, fear, addiction, spiritual questions, or another difficult season, we seek to listen with care and help them take faithful steps toward growth. We believe God’s Word brings wisdom for life, and that lasting change happens as the Holy Spirit renews our hearts and minds.

Our counseling ministry is relational, and discipleship focused. We seek to walk with people rather than simply give them answers; listening carefully, praying together, exploring what they are experiencing, opening Scripture, and identifying practical steps forward. We also believe that people were created to grow within the community of Christ, so counseling is connected to the larger life of the church through worship, fellowship, prayer, small groups, mentoring, and meaningful Christian relationships.

Stephanie O'Connell

Stephanie is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Wisconsin. She loves working with children, adolescents, and adults. Stephanie received a strong biblical education and is also trained in clinical counseling techniques. Stephanie’s journey began in education where she spent several years in a variety of school settings and taught middle and high school English. After receiving God’s call to biblical counseling, she completed her master’s degree in Professional Counseling at Concordia University in Mequon, WI. Stephanie has experience working in Crisis Intervention and is passionate about strengthening marriages through couples counseling and working with families. Stephanie believes in earning her clients’ trust and patiently supporting them on their individual journeys through an encouraging partnership.

Pastor Chuck Cervenka

Chuck grew up in the area attending Calvary. He married the love of his life, Karen, right out of high school and has three adult children and eight amazing grandchildren. After nearly 30 years in business, God called him to minister here at Calvary in his church home. He loves to read, study, and learn. He loves yardwork and tinkering with wood in the garage. He values time with his family and conversations that can help him and others continue to grow in relationship with Jesus.. His greatest love is Jesus, and he loves to see others come to love Jesus as well.

Pastor Dustin Radloff

Dustin grew up in Wausau, Wi and came to know the Lord at an early age. He and Joh, his wife, got married in 1998, have 4 children and love to play games and spend time together. After teaching high school mathematics for 12 years, God called him into full-time ministry. He loves sharing the love of Jesus to everyone whether it is through serving them or sitting down and having a conversation. He is passionate about being a disciple of Christ and helping others on their discipleship journey.

What to Expect

Introduction to counselor(s)
Explanation of how we work with people – seek to provide a safe holding space, desire to protect the integrity of what is shared, intentionality behind earning the clients’ trust
No expectation that a first session is going to turn into an ongoing therapeutic relationship (client gets a sample of what counseling at Calvary would look like and can decide from there)
Gentle probing into the presenting concerns or issues (not intrusive/deep interrogation) to determine what it may be helpful to address down the road as trust is established
To have hurts that have happened along the trail validated

Handouts to take home and review/complete should the client decide to return
To be given a standard intake form to complete and bring back for the second session
To be walked through a standard informed consent document (signature needed)
To be given the option of reaching out if the client would like to set up a next appointment after giving it more thought, or to immediately look at scheduling a next appointment
An opportunity to voice concerns or ask questions about the counseling process

Payment & Scheduling

We don’t accept insurance by choice, which allows us to freely pray and open God’s word with people.
$50 per session, paid in cash or check made out to Calvary Community Church.
Talk to us if finances prevent you from seeking counseling.
Sessions are scheduled on a “first come, first served” basis.

Sessions are scheduled at a frequency that makes sense for the work being done (biweekly, monthly, as needed – for periodic checkups or there is a need for rescheduling).
Scheduling is discussed directly with your counselor (no online calendar or appointment booking).
