Week 6 Living on Mission: Surrendered Servant

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper.  He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist.  Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. John 13:3-5

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”, Winston Churchill.  I saw this quote recently and thought about Jesus.  He gave his life, so we could live.  He demonstrated, through his humility, what it looks like to be fully surrendered to God.  This week as we look at being a Surrendered Servant, we will take a look at when Jesus washed the disciples feet.  In doing so we will be challenged in what it means to be surrendered to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Day 36: Monday – A Surrendered Servant Denies Themself

“Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24

  • Key Thought:  To follow Jesus fully, means we deny ourselves.
  • Prayer Focus:  God, help me deny myself and follow you.

Day 37: Tuesday – A Surrendered Servant Goes Where Jesus is

“If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also.  If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.”  John 12:26

  • Key Thought:  As followers of Jesus we are to go where he goes.
  • Prayer Focus:  Father, give me boldness as I follow you.

Day 38: Wednesday – A Surrendered Servant Commits to God Alone

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and money.”  Matthew 6:24

  • Key Thought:  Our lives are to be given fully to the Lord.
  • Prayer Focus:  Lord, help me to serve you alone.

Day 39: Thursday – A Surrendered Servant is Humble

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”  Philippians 2:3

  • Key Thought:  Humility is a key aspect of serving.
  • Prayer Focus:  God, help me to be humble in my service to you.

Day 40: Friday – A Surrendered Servant is Called

“For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.”  I Peter 2:21

  • Key Thought:  We are called to follow in his steps.
  • Prayer Focus:  Lord, give us courage to follow your steps.

Day 41: Saturday – A Surrendered Servant is a Living Sacrifice

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”  Romans 12:1

  • Key Thought:  We are to be a living sacrifice.
  • Prayer Focus:  Father, help us to give all we have in service to you.

Day 42: Sunday

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!”

Psalm 122:1

Gathering together for worship is a joyful privilege.

  • Key Thought: I can be excited to go and worship the lord!
  • Prayer Focus: That God would prepare my heart for worshiping him today!
